Conveniently located between Mid-Argyll and Kintyre, Argyll Backpackers is an amazing purpose-built hostel with stunning views across Loch Fyne. You can expect a warm welcome and comfortable accommodation across a range of self-catering options. From en-suite motel style bunkrooms to 'private' rooms all on the ground floor, and even our wee special Hostel upstairs (the "Wee Snug") with its own private access and seating area. Ready to welcome singles, couples, families, and groups, consider this your home-from-home when exploring and adventuring in Argyll.
Pam owns and runs the hostel - and really was born into the role! Her inspiration for building the hostel originated with her parents, who met while visiting hostels in Scotland during the late 1940s. It’s safe to say that Pam inherited the hostelling bug! She really believes in the community ethos of hostelling; encouraging guests to share the highlights of their trip and providing input when planning their next stages.
Starting out as a piece of waste ground, Pam designed and managed the whole build - and learned to turn her hand to many different skills during that time. The result is a fantastic purpose-built hostel designed to offer safe, comfortable, and practical self-catering accommodation on a budget...no other accommodation provider offers these types of facilities to those wishing just a one night stay...but you can stay longer.
Hotels and B&B's don't and you pay more, plus have to eat out and/or pay extra...and most self-catering accommodations have a minimum stay requirement...so hostelling makes so much sense and it's more fun!!
As a small business, Pam will usually be on hand to help ensure you have an enjoyable stay. This is our home, and it's our mission to help you feel at home too!
Since opening in 2017, we’ve welcomed guests from as far New Zealand and as near as Lochgilphead. We love this area and enjoy sharing our local knowledge with guests. There are so many gems accessible right from our doorstep...the best scenic spots for picnics, wildlife watching, exploring historical sites, and enjoying the ancient Scottish culture. We can even tell you where to buy the best, reasonably priced local seafood so that you can cook up a feast back at the hostel. Just let us know what you're interested in...if you don't ask, you may miss the best of Argyll!!
Our beachside location offers lovely loch views, great access to cycling and walking routes, and easy access for wild swimming, kayaking, SUP, and wind surfing (just bring your own gear). There are easy transport links for cyclists, motorists, and bikers, while the public bus service stops directly at the hostel. Canoeists or other boaties can even arrive via Loch Fyne itself! In our 'Info' areas you’ll find local maps, ferry and bus timetables, and ideas for things to do in the area - whether you’re looking for an adventure or something more relaxed.
By staying with us, you’ll always get a warm welcome and a comfortable stay! Look out for our mascot, ‘Jack’, waiting to greet you (a life-size mannequin of a backpacker, named after Pam’s Dad)...can you spot him below?
